Assisted
Living
Stresses Independence
& Care
Many seniors need help with
daily living activities, but prefer to retain an independent
lifestyle. Assisted Living offers the perfect solution
providing security, ready access to medical services
and a sense of community. Fayette and Coweta counties
have many high-quality facilities with services that
range from minimal to comprehensive.
Ashley Glen Assisted Living
in Peachtree City
Ashley Glen Assisted Living
and Alzheimer's Care offers an assisted
living experience that blends personalized, quality
care and supportive
surroundings.
"Our caring, and specially
trained staff members are here round-the-clock,
says Elaine Gaillard, Marketing Director. "They
know our residents personally and are always ready
to help."
Staff members make a positive
impact on the residents' lives. Meg Williams, a
personal trainer and group fitness instructor who
works out of World Gym, visits twice a week to share
some mid-morning exercise with the seniors. "We
play games, sing songs, use colorful balls, balloons
and streamers - whatever it takes to make exercising
as fun as possible," says Meg.
And it is fun. Residents
look forward to Meg's visits and enjoy stretching,
moving and visiting with her. "We all love Meg,"
resident Caroline Barrett says with a big smile.
Last April, Ashley Glen
marked its fifth anniversary caring for seniors
in the area. And it celebrated with a makeover and
addition.
Five new residence suites
and a beautifully updated look were added to the
facility. The improvements were seen throughout
the entire building, including entryways, flooring,
lighting and furnishings. Ashley Glen's
residents decorated and donned yellow hardhats,
as a show of cooperation and support during the
renovations.
In addition to comprehensive
activity and social programs, Ashley Glen provides
services to residents, such as scheduled transportation
and delicious meals and snacks.
The Village offers an enclave
within Ashley Glen for residents with Alzheimer's
disease or other memory impairments. "This special
program provides a caring, nurturing atmosphere
where warmth and love are shared," says Elaine.
Southland
Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center
Southland Nursing Home,
a 155-bed skilled nursing facility in Peachtree
City is dedicated to quality and
customer service and it shows. Their mission statement
and core values stress quality and customer service
and every day, each associate helps to implement
those values.
In 2003, a major highlight
for Southland Nursing Home was receiving the Step
II Quality Award by the American Health Care Association
(AHCA), a non-profit organization representing nearly
12,000 senior care providers across the nation.
AHCA's Quality Award has very stringent criteria
and Southland was one of only 11 facilities across
the nation to receive it last year.
Southland Nursing Home
also had their tri-annual Joint Commission survey
in 2003. Joint Commission evaluates and accredits
more than 16,000 health care organizations in the
US. It is the nation's premier standard setting
and accrediting body in health care. Southland scored
91% on the one-day survey, which is "very rare",
according to Vicki Christian who performed the survey.
Southland is very proud of the score as it reflects
their high standards of quality care and safety.
Clearly, the residents
and quality of care is what matters most to all
associates of Southland Nursing Home.

City
Gracious independent and

living room, dining areas and activity rooms.
October 2002, Wesley Woods
opened a 16-bed sheltered Skilled Nursing Unit that
accommodates the needs of residents who require
skilled nursing in a more supervised setting.
In November 2003, Wesley

designed to meet the needs of individuals with memory
impairment. The home-like environment enables residents
to maintain their independence as long as possible.
The residents also participate in stimulating activities
and group sessions that complement the residents'
individualized care plans.
While the memory loss unit
is secure, residents are comfortable with its open,
airy design and outside courtyard. The CNAs are
certified nursing personnel with Alzheimer's training.
"Our goal is to offer seniors
spacious and gracious retirement living throughout
their lives," says Executive Director Terry Thompkins.
